How to turn on VAT and choose your VAT settings
If your business is VAT registered, PawLoop can work out VAT on every invoice for you. VAT is off for every business until you switch it on, so nothing changes unless you choose it.
Open your invoice settings
Go to Settings, choose the Money tab, then Invoices. Scroll to the VAT section.
Switch VAT registered on
Tick "VAT registered". The rest of the VAT options appear once it is on.
Add your VAT registration number
Type your VAT registration number. It is printed on your invoices exactly as you enter it. We do not check it with HMRC, so please double check it is right.
If you already had a VAT number saved with your invoice branding, it is still there. It simply lives in this section now, so there is only one place to keep it up to date.
Pick your default VAT rate
Choose the rate that applies to your services: 20% standard, 5% reduced or 0% zero rated. Most dog walking and pet care businesses use 20%.
Say whether your prices include VAT
Choose one of two options:
- Prices include VAT: the price you charge is the total the client pays, and VAT is taken out of it. A £15.00 walk at 20% is £12.50 plus £2.50 VAT.
- Prices exclude VAT: VAT is added on top. A £15.00 walk at 20% becomes £18.00 for the client.
Check the worked example, then save
Under the choice you will see a live example using a £15.00 service, so you can see exactly what a client would be charged before you save.
Save your settings. From that moment, new invoices use the VAT setup you chose.
